A Consultative Approach
The success of any search is built on the depth of communication, understanding and trust; and the outcome of our work is profoundly affected by the quality of collaboration with our clients. We practice a consultative approach to executive search and foster long-term relationships with clients with the mutual goal of securing the best candidate for the current opportunity. Most searches progress through four stages, with each phase presenting an opportunity for the client and NDH to share and integrate their own perspectives and best practices into the process. We present candidates who have worked in compatible environments, cultures and have similar design sensibilities to ensure fit on a project or permanent basis.
Client Briefing / Position Specification
This initial phase is the most important as it is crucial for our understanding of the client’s recruitment needs. In meetings, conversations and observational visits with the relevant stakeholders in the client organization (senior management, human resources, search committee members, etc.), we learn about the position and its responsibilities, as well as the client’s expectations regarding the ideal candidate in terms of background, abilities, competencies and potential compensation. During this stage, we also gather information on the company’s goals, strategies and culture, which are helpful to ensure the personal and cultural fit of the candidates.
Research and Candidate Identification and Development
Based on the position specification and our knowledge of the client’s needs, we develop a search strategy, which is the intellectual roadmap of the search. It is a methodical approach that helps us define and prioritize the industry segments and companies that are most likely to yield the very best candidates. In addition to our targeted research, we make extensive use of our own personal and professional network of contacts, and consult online, alumni and other industry sources.
Once a candidate is contacted, that person is qualified for the opportunity. Our familiarity with the industry and its culture as well as our professional approach provides us with a high level of receptiveness and responsiveness. Through telephone interviews and discussions, we screen and evaluate for pertinent experience, skills, and cultural fit. As we progress and complete this phase of the search, we schedule a progress meeting with the client to review the market feedback and discuss candidates identified.
Interviewing and Presentation
We assess in detail the skills, interest level and cultural fit of each potential candidate through a personal interview. Once we have interviewed all suitable candidates, we short-list them and present only the most qualified ones to the client.
For each presented candidate, our client receives a profile that includes the candidate’s experience and expertise, strengths and weaknesses analysis, and a detailed assessment on the candidate’s match for the position.
Candidate Selection, Referencing and Closure
To further assist the client in the decision-making process we perform informal reference checks and verify educational credentials. As soon as the client makes a final choice we take formal references, provide input on a candidate’s compensation, assist the client in formulating an offer and act as intermediaries in the negotiations until an agreement is reached. When the search is completed, we follow up with both the client and the candidate over a period of time to facilitate a smooth transition and to help resolve any issues that may arise.
